Northford Timber Framers
George was an extraordinary and inspirational man whose energy seemed boundless. He was passionate, charismatic and happiest when in motion - always accomplishing, achieving, creating, dreaming, fixing, and building. His dedication to preserving old barns led to the formation of the Northford Timber Framers where he served as the revolutionary barn leader for 27 years. What began as a simple mission to save old barns has evolved into an ever-growing team of volunteers who join together each year to craft timbers and raise barns while raising funds for diverse causes such as transplant recipients, cancer patients, veterans and numerous other deserving beneficiaries.
Diagnosed with heart disease in 2001, George was given a second chance at life with a heart transplant in 2004. He lived 50 years with the heart of a lion, 9 months with an artificial Jarvik heart, and 19 years with a donated heart, affectionately known as "The Boston Girl." Fully embracing each moment, he continued to build barns, mentor others, and found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially shopping! He became an avid promoter of organ donation, encouraging others to "Be a Miracle, Be a Donor." His mischievous spirit, deep love of animals, and passion for woodworking and Indian motorcycles endeared him to many. George's impact extended far beyond his immediate circles, leaving a legacy of generosity, friendship, and skill. He passed away in 2023, leaving a large void in the lives of all those he touched, his memory will continue to inspire. George's remarkable journey teaches us the value of living with courage and compassion until the very end.
